BBSRI is a regional non-profit research organization founded in 1998. Our mission is to conduct applied research and monitoring to improve the well-being of residents of Bristol Bay, Alaska with an emphasis on the Bay's fish stocks and fisheries.
BBSRI is a 501.c.3 subsidiary of the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation (BBEDC).
What We Do
Research and innovations to benefit the communities of Bristol Bay.
Fisheries Research
We collect data from many projects throughout Bristol Bay, both inland and in coastal waters, including the Port Moller Test Fishery, the Dutch Harbor Inseason Chum Bycatch Assessment Program, the Nushagak Test Fishery, and fish-counting weirs and towers on the Nushagak River.
Policy Advisement
BBSRI actively collaborates with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Board of Fisheries and other state and federal groups to promote regulations that will provide the best outcomes for our region's fisheries.
Technological Advancement
In collaboration with ADF&G and NOAA, we have led the way for the implementation of new technology in fisheries field research, including at-sea genetics and scale imaging laboratories and our Inseason Chum Bycatch Assessment Program.
